I am coming to you with some good news, as well as a dose of measured caution. After hearing from many in the congregation and meeting with church leaders to evaluate our options, we have decided to open the Church this Sunday, May 31st for one service only at 11am. There are many unknowns surrounding this virus, so we will proceed based on the best safety information available and with careful consideration for the safety of all.

Please take a moment to review the safety measures that we will follow beginning this Sunday, and going forward, until further notice:

  • We need all in attendance to wear face masks, other than the Minister and one soloist. Masks will be provided for anyone who doesn't have one.
  • Singing will be limited to a single performer who is positioned 10-15 feet from others. We will forgo group hymns and The Peace Song. Instead our soloist will sing an opening and closing song for the service.
  • We will refrain from hand holding and other physical contact. A Namaste bow is suggested instead, as an indication of love and gratitude.
  • 4 empty seats will be required between each family/member. Every other row of chairs will be removed to allow for safer social distancing.
  • No printed bulletins will be provided.
  • We will use a single collection box when you exit, rather than passing collection bags.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided at the entrance.
  • Only one person in the bathroom at a time.
  • No coffee or food will be permitted in the kitchen. The water fountains will be covered.
  • The doors will be propped open to avoid having to touch handles and to encourage maximum air circulation. Door handles will be sanitized before and after the service.
  • At this time we will limit attendance to 50 people. We think that attendance will naturally fall under this threshold. As we proceed, we will evaluate this number and how we manage the situation.

We realize that feelings and opinions may vary widely with regard to these measures. For those who feel that returning to church is too risky, we honor and respect your decision not to attend. We will make online viewing of the service available for all who choose not to attend.

For those who are eager to resume attending live church services, we ask that you embrace these safety measures for the comfort and protection of all. Adopting these safety measures signifies our love and caring for one another, despite any personal discomfort involved.

As always, please be sure to stay home if you are sick, if you've come in contact with anyone who has tested positive for Covid in the last 2 weeks, or if you are at higher risk of contracting the virus.

Please reach out with questions or concerns to me or to any Board member. We are here to listen and serve the highest good of all.

Love and Light,

Reverend Elizabeth Forrest
Unity Board of Directors
